Reflections: Peoples of Earth

All organic development, including human development, is the result of emergent self-organisation as the organism interacts with the environment. Moreover, according to the Out-of-Africa Theory, all human beings alive today are descendants of the same mother or very small related group of mothers that originated in East Africa some 100,000-150,000 or so years ago. Hence, while there are differences of custom, tradition and habit across and within national and geographical boundaries, we all share the same ancestry and the same biological processes of human development. In the bronze sculpture, located in a marketplace in Seoul, we see Korean, Chinese and Japanese meeting together in harmony, exchanging the products of the natural world, sharing a common set of values amid their regional differences.
